Saqqara Ride

Overview

A sunset horse ride through the quiet desert of Abu Sir and Saqqara, south of Giza. Fewer visitors, more space, and the pyramids where pyramid building began, including the Step Pyramid of Djoser, built more than 4,600 years ago. From one point along the way you can see several pyramids at once across the horizon.

How the ride works

• When: the ride starts about 2 hours before sunset, so the time moves with the seasons. We confirm it when you book.
• How long: about 2 hours.
• Where we meet: our stable in Saqqara. We send you the exact location on WhatsApp after you book. Hotel pick-up is available for an extra charge.
• Who can ride: riders from 6 years old (children ride a horse led by the guide), up to 110 kg. Riding isn’t suitable for people with a heart condition.
• Group: up to 10 riders, with your own guide.

What you see

You ride past the pyramids of Abu Sir and the ruins of the sun temple at Abu Ghurab, with the Step Pyramid of Saqqara on the horizon, and watch the sun go down over the desert from the saddle. The open sand suits riders who want to feel the horse move; experienced riders can gallop.

Good to know

• Water is on us. Winter evenings in the desert turn cold after sunset: bring a sweater for the ride back.
• Rides go ahead in the heat and the wind.
• Reserve with a 50% deposit and pay the rest on the day. Free cancellation up to 24 hours before your ride.
